Ryan and Gillian met in college while attending SUNY Potsdam in New York. After working together to produce their very first feature film, "Oops I Killed My Boss", it was clear that the two possessed the same passion for story telling through art and film with a unique twist.
Ryan comes from a small town in Northern New York and has lived in Atlanta since 2022. His passion for performance and filmmaking began at an early age when he would recite The Wizard of Oz word for word at the age of 3. Throughout his school years he performed in various holiday plays and eventually various musicals including Fiddler on the Roof, Grease, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and yes you guessed it, The Wizard of Oz in which he played The Cowardly Lion. Ryan began writing stories and creating home videos at the age of 8 and even applied to the New York Film Academy however, due to costs, he opted to attend the State University of New York at Potsdam where he studied both Theatre and Spanish. While at university, Ryan focused primarily on theatrical performance, costuming, and writing of which was predominantly in Spanish. He appeared in several stage productions such as Federico Garcia Lorca’s Blood Wedding and Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The most important production of them all, however, was the spring 2018 production of Venus by Suzan Lori-Parks because it is this production where Ryan and Gillian met. Working together as two of the eight wonders they quickly grew very fond of each other and very soon after Ryan would call Gillian one of his best friends. In spring of 2019 Ryan wrote his very first feature length film, Oops I Killed My Boss and Gillian was his number one choice for the lead role. Throughout Ryan’s final semester in university he directed, produced, and even appeared in the film, all at the same time as writing, directing, and performing in his senior project for his theater program.
In the summer of 2018 Ryan participated in an internship with his university’s Modern Language department focused on the research of Chilean textile artwork called arpilleras. Ryan was tasked with the analysis of over fifty arpilleras for an exhibition of the pieces the following school year. In addition to this, after his separate study abroad program in San Jose, Costa Rica, Ryan visited Santiago, Chile along with a professor and student from a neighboring university to further develop their research. While conducting interviews with first hand witnesses of the time and touring significant historical sites the concept for Ryan’s senior project was born. During a tour of the former clandestine prison and current peace park, Villa Grimaldi, he came across a memorial plaque in the rose garden commemorating each of the women’s lives that were lost in the camp that read “homenaje a la compañera desconocida” which translates to “homage to the unknown companion”. In an instant Ryan knew that he wanted to use his senior project to tell this woman’s story. Using all of the research he gathered during his internship he wrote the fictional story of the unknown woman’s life prior to her capture and her experience in the prison camp. It was the perfect way to bring together every aspect of Ryan’s college education and jumpstart his career going forward.
After graduating with his Bachelor’s of Arts in May 2019 Ryan went on to work with Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake, New York. He performed as Ellard Simms in The Foreigner and Joe in Popcorn Falls until the COVID-19 pandemic brought everything to a screeching halt. It wasn’t until finally in 2022 when Ryan was able to move to Atlanta to live with Gillian and begin focusing on their dream once again. In early 2022 the two produced a short film called MOTH. This was an impromptu project that has blossomed into one of the most important foundational pieces of work for Tower of Temperance Studios.
